I don’t like that many food & kitchen items. It takes a lot to impress me. The following are some of my staples:
Sichuan Peppercorns. Also known as Chinese coriander. Spicy, unexpected, and not at all like black peppercorns, it’s better. It will change the entire taste of your dish. Truly an amazing item you should stock up on. Get it online or at an Asian grocery.
Chervil is my absoloute favorite green herb. And it’s not easily available in stores, so stock up when you can find it. If you can grow it, please do so. It’s great in egg dishes, sauces, and everything else. It smells like parsley, but tastes phenomenally better.
Ghee is a must have item. Clarified butter. Keep this in your pantry. No need to refrigerate. Excellent in everything from sauteing to sauces.
Because there is a difference. Grassfed butter has a difference in color-it’s very yellow, and in it’s superior taste. I use the unsalted pastured, grassfed butter. Kerrygold is a good one. The silver label is unsalted, the gold label is the salted version.
Great oil for salad dressings that is very high in Omega 3’s. Made from a Peruvian plant’s seed. Used by the Incas 3000 years ago. Available at your local whole foods market or Amazon.com.
Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer. Makes pasta out of zucchini squash and other veggies. Tastes better than spaghetti noodles and the noodles can be eaten raw or sauteed. I got mine on Amazon.
My Dean & Deluca Spice Rack. The spices are in glass test tubes, and you can order this rack in 2 sizes. deandeluca.com
Great tasting and so good for you. Can be heated in cooking.
My favorite hot sauces. Look for the chicken on the label.
This salt free version of Cavender’s Greek seasoning can be difficult to find in stores, but it is worth locating and acquiring on line at the Cavender’s website or Amazon.com.
This is an excellent immune supplement. I prefer the unflavored version, not the peppermint version.
Organic dried cranberries without any added sweeteners.
Macadamia nuts had to take a back seat after I tried these. Amazing in salads and just out of the bag.
Edible borage oil for use in salad dressings. Keep refrigerated and use non-heated, so, do not heat for cooking.
Real gumbo filet powder is ground sassafras leaves with nothing else mixed in. A great substitute for thickening soups and stews without flour.Has a nice subtle root-beer like taste.
Very inexpensive and tastes amazing.
I found out about this nifty gadget while I was visiting Canada, and had to have one. Makes seltzer water right in your kitchen in seconds.
This is an oil that can’t be heated for cooking but is excellent for those home made salad dressings and is an essential ingredient to throw in the mini food processor with basil for a good-for-you high omega 3 basil oil. Good for your body, skin, & well, also your brain.
